How do I order on The Mayyarani®?

It’s easy to buy online. You can transact worry-free because all payments are processed via the secure Payfast payment gateway. Simply pay using your credit card, do an instant EFT, or get it on credit with Mobicred.

  • We deliver to customers residing in South Africa and other international countries, including Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland, Mozambique, Zambia, Nigeria, Angola and DRC.
  • Delivery is FREE to customers residing in South Africa only!


Can I rent a dress from The Mayyarani®?

Our prices for outright purchase of dresses is really really cheap, and most dress rental businesses may charge a similar price which is quite costly - just to rent!

We do prefer to sell dresses rather than rent (because these may be damaged during rentals), but if you prefer to rent instead, get in touch with us and we'll do our best to get rental permission from the owner/seller of the garment.

That said, if you do buy a dress from us, we may consider reselling it on your behalf (at a further reduced price) if it's still in a clean and wearable condition. 


How do you guarantee the condition of the garment?

The original owner of the item is asked to declare any known issues before we agree to stock it, however we check all garments thoroughly for faults, damage and authenticity (if applicable) before adding them to our collection.


Does the garment come professionally cleaned?

We do not clean garments, however the original owner must provide the item(s) to us in a clean, wearable and saleable condition. If the garment received does not meet these requirements, we will not make it available for sale.


How will I know if the garment fits?

  • We provide the clothing size (as per the garment’s label) or by indicating 30 (XS), 32 (S), 34 (M), 36 (L), 38 (XL) and 40 (XXL).
  • You may compare your body measurements to that of the model/mannequin provided, and make an informed decision before purchasing.


Can I alter the garment?

Once you pay for a dress, it’s yours to keep and you can do whatever you like to achieve the best look, feel and fit. However, if you make alterations to the gown, you may not return it to us and we will not refund your purchase under any circumstances. 


I am not happy with the quality of fabric/design. What now?

We will happily refund your purchase (less all delivery fees) within 7 days, provided that the tamper-proof tape is still in place.


A few beads/trimmings are missing. What now?

Missing embellishments and other faults will be declared in writing in the product description on the shop catalogue. Since you knowingly bought the defective/damaged product, at a much reduced price, the responsibility and cost of repairing the garment will be yours.


Can I fit on a garment before buying it?

Unfortunately, garments cannot be tried on prior to purchasing them online from our shop. In certain cases, you may book an appointment to try the garment on but you will not be able to (under any circumstances) take the garment into your possession without making payment first. To book an appointment for fitting, please get in touch with us.

How do I sell my clothes on The Mayyarani®?

  1. Please send us an email describing the item and include:
- Your name, contact details and suburb.
- Colour photos of the front and back (full-length)
- Designer and/or brand label
- Fabric and/or material make-up
- Size
- Guesstimate the initial price you paid
- Tell us how much money you hope to get back
- Your reason for selling
- Disclose any alterations/modifications made, and known faults. 
  1. If we like what we see, we'll make you an offer. 
  2. You will required to pay a non-refundable listing fee per garment.
  3. You must be willing to leave the garment with us for up to 6 months. We will arrange collection via a reputable courier service (at your own cost).
  4. You will receive payment for the item only after we've sold it.


How much is the listing fee and how do I pay?

The non-refundable listing fee that we charge is minimal, and it's based on the cost that you initially paid for your garment. 

You can either pay via EFT or you can pay cash on drop-off of your garment at our premises. Once you accept our offer, we will provide banking details.

Why is the listing fee non-refundable?

Whether or not your garment sells, our team provides a service; listing your garments on our own site as well as other popular local and international marketplaces (where appropriate). 

Our service includes:

  • Professional photos
  • Product added to our collection
  • Local & international listings
  • Exposure on Facebook and Instagram
  • Packaging and storage


What types of garments do you buy?

Firstly, we don't buy clothes outright. We take garments on consignment, add them to our collection online, list and market them, and make every effort to sell them on your behalf.

We’re particularly interested in garments from globally-renowned brands, and local and international designers, but anything that’s beautiful and oozes top quality will be acceptable.

- Evening dresses
- Cocktail dresses
- Genuine and faux leather jackets
- Wedding gowns
- Eastern wear
- Suits including skirt suits and jumpsuits
- Other luxury tops and bottoms
- Little girls' party dresses


Is there a limit to how old my dress/garment is?

No, we have no problem with garments that are several years old unless its style is completely outdated, and are more concerned with how often it was worn. If a garment was worn very often and is showing signs of wear and tear, we will not add it to our collection.


How long will my garment be listed on The Mayyarani®?

We will list the garment for up to 6 months, and if it’s not sold during that period, you may choose to:

- Leave it with us a while longer
- Have it returned to you (at your own delivery cost)
- Let us donate it to a charity on your behalf


What happens if my dress does not sell within the 6-month period?

If the garment is not sold within 6 months, you may choose to:

- Leave it with us a while longer
- Have it returned to you (at your own delivery cost)
- Let us donate it to a charity on your behalf


When will I get paid for my garment?

You will receive payment for the item only after we've sold it.


Do you buy/sell children's and teen's evening dresses?

Yes, we do accept pre-owned girls' clothes for resale. Our process remains the same as that of adult clothing.


Can I list a garment bought from a department store?

  • No, we will only accept garments bought from ordinary retailers and department stores under certain conditions.
  • We will gladly accept more exclusive items purchased in high-end stores and boutiques.
  • We accept bespoke wedding gowns, matric dance dresses and bridesmaid dresses.


Do I have to clean my garment before selling it?

If there are any visible dirt marks and food stains, or an unpleasant odour, then yes, you must make every effort to send us the dress in a clean, wearable and saleable condition.

Please read the care instructions carefully and dry clean the garment professionally if needed.


Can I sell more than one garment at a time?

Yes, definitely! We will gladly accept more than one item but we will require these details for each garment:

- Your name, contact details and suburb.
- Colour photos of the front and back (full-length)
- Designer and/or brand label
- Fabric and/or material make-up
- Size
- Guesstimate the initial price you paid

How do I send my pre-loved clothes to your premises?

We will arrange a courier service (at your cost) to collect the garment(s) from you or you may arrange your own preferred delivery channel. Alternatively, you can drop your garment off personally, but you must make an appointment prior.

Alternatively, like The Mayyarani on Facebook and follow The Mayyarani on Instagram to find out about our upcoming drop-off days. You’ll be able to bring all your garments to one designated point and meet our team.


How will I know if you've received my garments?

You’ll receive an email notifying you that we’ve received and accepted your garment/s.

We will then take good-quality photographs of the individual items and add them to our online shop.


When will I be notified if my garment sells?

As soon as the once-off item is sold, it will remain on our website as ‘sold out’ for up to two weeks.

We will notify you by email within 14 days after the sale was made, provided that the buyer has not returned the garment for a refund.


How soon after my garment sells will I be paid?

We will effect payment to you within 14 days after the sale was made, provided that the buyer has not returned the garment for a refund.


I've changed my mind. What If I no longer want to sell my garment?

We will happily return your garment via a courier service, unless it has been sold, but all delivery charges must be settled by you. 

If the garment has already been sold, we cannot return it to you. 


I want to return a garment. Am I responsible for the return delivery fees?

Yes, free delivery applies (in South Africa) on your initial purchase only, but the cost of returning garments to us must be paid by you.

What methods of payment do you accept?


Are my payment and card details secure?

Yes, all transactions are securely processed through the PayFast payment gateway.


    What are the shipping costs to my country?

    We’ve partnered with reputable door-to-door couriers to offer FREE delivery for all orders within South Africa only. We offer charged delivery to other neighbouring and African countries, including Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Mozambique.


    How long will it take for my order to be delivered?

    1. All deliveries within South Africa take 2-5 working days (depending on whether you’re in a main city or outlying area).
    2. International deliveries may take up to 10 working days.
    3. Delivery only takes place during working hours, Monday to Friday.
    4. Deliveries will not take place over weekends and on public holidays.
    5. Delivery is only to a physical address. We do not deliver to a PO Box.

    How do I track my order?

    Once you’ve placed your order, you will automatically receive email updates so you'll know exactly where your parcel is while it's in transit.

    Since all our products are gently-worn are available for purchase online at a much-reduced 'sale' price, our return policy lasts 7 working days (excl. Saturdays and Sundays) only. If 7 weekdays have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we cannot offer you a refund or exchange.

    To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it and the tamper-proof tape must still be in place. If the tamper-proof tape has been removed, the item will not be eligible for return or exchange.
